Symbolic Self-Portraits (2007)

My students were learning how to incorporate symbolism into their artwork by studying Frida Kahlo, Marc Chagall, and Pablo Picasso. Students had to design a symbol that represented their interests, personality, or culture. From that symbol they learned how to create a motif or repeating pattern. They had to implement what they learned about color theory by choosing color schemes that unified the work of art. Final drawings were done in colored pencil.
